Maritina Daskalaki aka Maricha is doing beautiful Greek blog Higher Love (http://higher-love.net/) for a long time. She’s also a DJ and a host of radioshow BRAINTICKET on http://amateuradio.gr/. Maricha picked for us five favourite records from her collection!

Patrick Vian – Bruits Et Temps Analogues LP [1976, Egg]

This is a favourite record for years now, one of those cases that you agree with the artist’s ways 100%. Fusion-jazzy-ambient, experimental, progressive perfection! I also love the cover artwork, reflecting the atmoshere of the space era. Patrick Vian is the son of Boris Vian, the writer-poet, which only adds to my passion for this record.

Don Cherry – Malkauns / Brown Rice / Tarot Will Teach You / Isla 12″ [2008, A&M Records]

A compilation of four magical, hypnotic, electric jazz tracks with some eastern influences (first released in the 70’s). Been listening to this one for years, too.

003

Brainticket — Cottonwoodhill LP [1970, Bellaphon]

A record I’ve been actually listening since high-school. Psychedelic, space rock with some serious acid experience on side two. Joel Vandroogenbroeck playing flute and organ and Dawn Muir doing some crazy vocals. (+++ what is written on the record cover)

004

Dreamworld – Ways Of Love / Summerdays 12” [1980, Vertigo]

Two dramatic, melodic downtempo tracks with poetic lyrics, organ and guitar driven. Still cannot decide which of the two I prefer most. Dream-cover, too.

005

Quicksilver Messenger Service – The Ultimate Journey LP [1986, See For Miles Records Ltd.]
See it on Discogs

A selection of late 60’s & early 70’s QMS psychedelic rock tracks. ‘What About Me’, ‘Fresh Air’ & ‘Pride Of Man’ would be my favourites. Top instrumentation with piano, saxophone, flute & percussion -apart from the standard rock instruments. Lyrics that express the current-times’ thoughts and amazing lead vocals by Dino Valenti.
